bookcover design

book cover design

Designing a book cover is a designers dream.
The English idiom "don't judge a book by its cover" is a metaphorical phrase meaning that one  shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something, by its outward appearance alone. Its frequency of use in society today confirms that book readers throughout the world have done just that for centuries.

The split second it takes a consumer to decide on which book to purchase is influenced predominantly by the design of the book cover.

At Design BOS our job is to ensure that the cover stands apart from the competition, is relative to the books content, that it appeals to its audience and most importantly that the sale is made.

It is not just the first moment of purchase that we must consider. A book is clasped in the hands of its custodian for the duration of the read and sometimes kept for years by their owners, most of whom associate the cover design with the book forever.

We must therefore intuitively also become the audience, psychologist, and marketeer, in order to produce profitable results. At Design BOS we do this with passion. We aim to provide lucrative solutions to our clients, but most of all we want our audience to connect with what we do.

Design BOS is privileged to have produced hundreds of projects for the education industry. From third level all the way down to primary level, we aim to make education fun and encourage learning. We are honored to have been given the opportunity to make an impact on future generations. But truthfully, we love designing book covers because it's fun.

Clients include Gill and McMillan, Curragh Press.
